Bangkok : How to take Bus from Don Mueang airport to nearest BTS Station

Day 1 @ 15 June 2013

One thing i am thankful of staying in Malaysia is because we manage to purchase Air Asia's dirt cheap ticket :)

With RM 352.40 nett of return ticket to Bangkok, both me & my best buddies; Yen venturing the City together. Which also means, she will be my model of our trip as you will be seeing her pictures more than me. Haha.

The last when i travel to Bangkok, Air Asia's plane landed in "Suvarnabhumi International Airport" which is totally convenience for us taking BTS straight to Bangkok City & not getting stuck in the bad road traffic.

I previously stayed in Lub D Siam which is directly in front of BTS National Stadium. From "Suvarnabhumi International Airport" --> Take the express airport train & stop at the last station which is "BTS Phaya Thai"(7 stations from Airport) ---> Take the subway BTS from "BTS Phaya Thai Station"& stop at "BTS National Station"( 3 Stations from BTS Phaya Thai)

But since starting after middle of 2012, all flights to Bangkok's airport has change from "Suvarnabhumi International Airport" to "Don Mueang International Airport" which is not as convenience as Suvarnabhumi since there is no BTS connection from Don Mueang to the City.
It is either getting transportation by bus or taxi. We of course took bus since it is a cheaper :)

The moment our plane touches Don Mueang, the airport was not as crowded as Suvarnabhumi which is a plus point. Less crowd at the immigration counter.

Yen with the deserted Don Mueang..few steps before having our passport cop

After having our passport cop at the immigration counter, we zoom straight to the nearest information counter trying to get Maps & any Bangkok's brochure. Sadly, it is quite hard for us to get Maps as it is very limited ;it is easier getting maps & brochure of Bangkok in Suvarnabhumi airport. Been to Suvarnabhumi Airport for the 4th time previously, you can just get it at any corner of the airport. But in Don Mueang, you can only get ONE MAP p/person at the information counter & no other extra brochure of advertisement or promotion coupons as we usually get in Suvarnabhumi.

Nevertheless, at least we have a map on hand which is better than nothing. We asked the lady where can we get a bus to the nearest BTS station which is either BTS Mo Chit or  BTS Victoria Monument. Since BTS Victoria Monument is nearer to our BTS National Stadium, so we took the "A2 Bus" which cost us THB $ 30 (RM 3)

Our bus ticket THB 30 (RM 3) p/person to BTS Victoria Monument

Inside the A2 Airport Bus.
It is very easy to get the local A2 Airport Bus to nearest BTS Station as there will be a signboard in English informing the Bus's destination. And there will be a bus conductor standing next to the signboard. Thankfully, the bus conductor speak little english & inform her that we want to stop at nearest BTS Station by pointing at the BTS Map. She understand our direction clearly.
The same A2 bus that we sat also stops at BTS Mo Chit (Chatuchak Market, now known as JJ market). Most tourist (Non Local) stops at BTS Mo Chit as once the bus reach BTS Mo Chit, every single passengers came down from the bus and only left me , Yen & a  Malaysians couple from Klang which i just got to know them in the bus itself. Haha

The bus conductor was a very friendly lady. Eventhough she speaks little english, yet she is helpful indeed. I asked her again will the bus stop at the nearest BTS Victoria Monument since it was my first bus trip from Don Mueang airport. She told us if we're to stop at Victoria Monument, we need to walk a little with our luggage to BTS Victoria Monument. Instead, she asked if it is Ok for the bus to stop us at BTS Ari Station which is nearer than stopping at Victoria Monument. Since the lady suggest, and it won't hurt us stopping at BTS Ari Station as long as the bus stop us at any BTS station. So we started our BTS journey from BTS Ari Station. Advantages of stopping in BTS Ari, at least it is not as pack as BTS Mo Chit. Firstly JJ Market is at Mo Chit station. So the place will be very pack with people and added with our luggage, it will be dreadfully sardin-squeeze pack.

The Bus journey ride from DM airport to BTS Ari is around 15-20 minute provided no traffic jam.

You can also check the BTS routes fare here to plan for your trip http://www.bts.co.th/customer/en/02-route-current.aspx

From BTS Ari --> BTS National Stadium, cost us THB$ 34 (RM 3.40) for single ticket; travel time = 11 minutes.

Since we're staying in Ibis Siam, once we come out from National Stadium train, you will see the hotel directly in front of the station.
